Uber has announced that it is going to introduce three features focusing on the safety of both riders as well as drivers in India. The decision has been taken to improve its services in one of its major markets, India. The latest features are; audio recording, ride check, and authentication code.
The audio recording feature will enable drivers or riders to record their trip and share with the company in case they apprehend any hazard. However, the feature will not be applied as the company will put it on testing in mid-2020 in India. Ola, its rival cab service provider, doesn’t have this feature, but a local shuttle service provider Shuttl has tested this a few years ago.
The two-factor authentication code feature will ensure that the rider must board the correct car. For that the rider must share a four-digit PIN with the driver, else the ride will not start. It’s notable that Ola introduced this feature long back in India.
The dubbed Ride Check feature will get activated in case there is a long or unexpected halt or if any sudden event takes place. Uber will detect this and call both the rider as well as the driver to ensure everything is fine. However, Uber will depend only on the driver partner’s phone to figure out any disruption.
‘Guardian’, the same kind of feature Ola started testing in September 2018 and will soon launch it in over 12 Indian cities along with Perth, Australia.
Moreover, Uber’s collaboration with Manas Foundation will even empower its mission for safety because owing to the fact that this foundation has organized thousands of customized gender sensitivity workshops for driver-partners in India with the aim to turn the platform safer for women. Therefore, over 50,000 driver-partners have already got trained, as per Uber.
Senior Director of Global Safety Products at Uber, Sachin Kansal, stated we are testing and monitoring these latest features in various countries across the globe.
Privacy is the foremost aspect for Uber and all these drills and tools are being brought into play considering only that. Therefore, we have been testing and will keep on doing so to ensure the top-notch ride experience for riders.
