Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin in a letter announced their stepping down from their chairs of CEO and president, respectively. As they abort the president position of Alphabet, Sundar Pichai will be in charge as the chief executive of the parent company. However, Page and Brin will remain as employees and the board members of the Alphabet.
“Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President. Going forward, Sundar will be the CEO of both Google and Alphabet. He will be the executive responsible and accountable for leading Google, and managing Alphabet’s investment in our portfolio of Other Bets,” the duo wrote in the letter.
Founded in 2015, Alphabet came into existence as “a collection of companies,” including Google and its core businesses and other companies owned by Google. Later, it was established as Google’s parent company. It is also the parent company of Waymo, Verily, Calico, and many others.
The duo co-founders started stepping back from the important roles since the formation of Alphabet. At the same time, Sundar Pichai became the CEO of Google in 2015, and he is one of the key members in the formation of Alphabet. As a familiar face of Google over a decade, Pichai is a pivotal part of the tremendous growth of Google as well as Alphabet. With the new chief position alteration, some significant strategies might emanate, according to reports.
Google has been facing regulations from both parties in the US. As the 2020 election is nearer, there is expected to have more scrutinization. According to Reuters, the Alphabet’s sole target is on “Google regulatory battles.” Pichai, as CEO can tackle the issue, the firm believes. Recently, Trump had led a meeting with him, and the US President announced that Google had no involvement in the Chinses security issue. Pichai is quite famous for his ‘affable nature’ to deal with problems.
