Why Does The Number Of Early Holiday Shoppers Increase Yearly?

by StartupWorld Staff

According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), half of the Holiday shoppers have started shopping for the upcoming Holiday, and around 25% of the purchase has already finished. Even though in a certain share of shoppers’ purchases weeks prior to season every year, there is a visible increase in the number of early shoppers.

It’s quite interesting to see why the number of early shoppers is increasing year over year. Many people shop at the beginning of November and even in October to ward off the crowd and last-minute stress. At the same time, innumerable retailers roll out Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday deals weeks prior to the 5-days long offer season. This helps shoppers not to procrastinate until the last minute.

To help such shoppers, many retailers, both small and large, have started giving offers in the beginning of the month itself. It helps not only get the desired products, but shoppers get a chance to experiment with different products and deals.

Why Does The Number Of Early Holiday Shoppers Increase Yearly

Even though there are various special days for offers, Thanksgiving Day Deals is still quite important in the season, and shopping for billions of dollars is yet to come, according to NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay.

He further adds, "a number of consumers have already been shopping for weeks, and retailers have also started coping with the scenario".

NRF has come up with a ten-year survey on Holiday shopping progress. If 48% of the users started early Holiday shopping in 2009, it is 56% when it reaches 2019. At the same time, the report says that only 18% are ready to wait until December. In 2009, only 4% had finished shopping, and it has raised to an average of 25%.

However, there is no doubt about the incredible number of people to shop for Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday. NRF forecasts that there would be 165 million shoppers this year. As the celebration is just around the corner, retailers are all set to unbox some phenomenal deals in addition to the existing offers. Of course, the majority of them are waiting for Friday to get the best Black Friday deals and discounts.
