Roblox Corporation Introduces New Tools For Game Development

Roblox that had recently made the headlines when it hit 100 million active monthly users has introduced a new set of game development tools and a new developer marketplace at its fifth annual developer conference.

The company also revealed that its developer community is on route to earning $100 million in 2019. The new set of developer tools will include a fully cloud-based developer software to build immersive and more realistic 3D experiences.

“We ultimately become more and more inspired and convinced that this is not just the future of gaming, this is really the future of a whole new category. I believe we’re sitting with not just the future of gaming, but the future of human co-experience,” David Baszucki, Founder and CEO quoted during the conference.

Founded in 2004, Roblox Corporations’ flagship product Roblox recently surpassed Microsoft’s Minecraft in terms of popularity and customer base. Baszucki stated that the developer community thought of things that they could not, and the company’s growth lies in their hands.

According to him, Roblox games witness 100,000 concurrent users and 1 billion plays. The startup has stated that they were committed to supporting the creator community with tools and resources needed to realize even greater success.

Roblox Corporation provides game development tools via Roblox Studio, which are used by developers to create their own game.

The startup does not pay the game developers for creating the game, but rather, it helps them to generate revenue through in-game purchases made by the players via the in-game currency called Robux. Adopt Me, Murder Mystery, MeepCity, Welcome to Bloxburg are some of the most popular games played. 

Roblox is valuated at $2.5 billion with approximately half of the US children between the age groups of 9 and 12 playing games on their platform.

With the new development tools aimed at supporting small development teams to build more complex games, Roblox is looking to cement its position as the global leader of online multiplayer and game creation platform.
