If you ever wanted to return something to Walmart, its hell of work, it takes five minutes to do everything. Walmart wants to cut the time for easy and smooth return for customers. Walmart would be launching a mobile application in November for returns called Mobile Express Returns, in November. It will slash return timing to 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes.

Daniel Eckert, Senior VP of Walmart Services and Digital Acceleration said, “The company will take its first step in early November – when it rolls out Walmart’s Mobile Express Returns, for items sold and shipped by Walmart.com. Store purchases should be integrated into the system by early 2018. We know that returning an item and waiting for a refund, especially for a product purchased online, isn’t always seamless, so we’ve completely transformed the process for our customers – whether they are shopping in stores or at Walmart.com.

For online shoppers, Walmart has come up with two steps process. First, the customer will have to initiate the return process on their phones using the mobile app before they go to the app. Second, Customer who has booked return on the app will have the separate line at Walmart, officials will scan the QR code, and the return will be processed with the refund in their account.

Earlier, Walmart rolled out the Express Lanes at the store. It was specifically created for Pharmacy and Money services, and now those lanes will be used to take care of returns as well. Shoppers will have some unique options for certain products like FMCG products, through the app, you may receive an instant refund when you initiate the refund.

When questioned about how Walmart will prevent customers misusing the new “keep it” option, Eckert answered, “We recognise time has become the new currency in retail, as much as saving money. We felt the app (Mobile Express Returns) was a growing expectation we needed to address and do it well.By leveraging our physical stores and the Walmart app, we’re changing the returns game in ways that only Walmart can do,”

But, Amazon is making a move to grow its Brick & Mortar presence so that customers have more places available to them to make returns easy. Amazon has also started processing returns at Whole Foods stores across the U.S. after it acquired the grocery startup in August this year.
