Facebook has acquired PlayGiga, a Spanish cloud gaming startup, in Series A funding from Adara Ventures. The company unleashed that it would be purchasing PlayGiga for $78 million. PlayGiga is currently available in Spain and Latin American countries: Argentina and Chile.
Facebook stated through its official blog that the firm is very happy to welcome PlayGiga to the Facebook Gaming team. However, the company is not ready to comment more on the acquisition as of now. At the same time, the PlayGiga team announced that it is turning their style in different directions. Still, it will continue to work on cloud gaming with a new mission.
Founded in 2013 by the current CEO Javier Polo, PlayGiga has been working with Telcos to build a new gaming technology for 5G that helps attract more mobile gamers for the companies. It provides a gaming platform for customers to learn high-end cloud-gaming in an easy and seamless manner. It is planning to build a cost-effective cloud gaming service with excellent user experiences.
Currently, Facebook is building its business in gaming and has more than 700 million users that engage every month. In the coming years, it is looking to expand its market outside online advertising. The company added its gaming hub to Facebook’s navigation bar. As Facebook added live streaming service to the gaming hub last year, it is aiming to complete Twitch.
Facebook’s interest in gaming business has shown various acquisitions in recent years, and Oculus is the major one among the acquired companies. Oculus is the creator of Beat Saber and has been using major game streamers to support its gaming app.
To enhance live-streaming gaming, Facebook has been developing its own virtual reality called Facebook Horizon. Developed with Oculus, the VR universe is currently available for beta. At the same time, Facebook recently sold Oculus’ masterpiece product Oculus Medium tool to Adobe.
