The leading pizza restaurant chain Dominos has announced that it would start delivering pizzas using custom electric bikes. Dominos has partnered with Rad Power Bikes, North America’s largest e-bike brand, to use their electric bikes for food delivery.

The customized e-bikes have small integrated motors to assist in pedaling and is capable of running 25-40 miles before needing a recharge. The e-bikes can carry up to 12 large pizzas. This new launch is a strategic move from Dominos to stay in par with the likes of DoorDash, GrubHub, and UberEats

“Domino's tested e-bikes in a number of corporate-owned stores across Houston, Miami and New York earlier this year, and those stores saw improvements in overall delivery and service,” quoted Domino’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations Tom Curtis.

The announcement came followed by a successful pilot program to test e-bike deliveries in different market places in the US. Domino’s ran the pilot program in Texas, New York, Florida, among many others. The pilot program ticked in all areas, including faster delivery, improved customer satisfaction, and a decrease in fuel expenses.

Domino’s plans to deploy hundreds of e-bikes in the cities of Baltimore, Houston, Miami, and Salt Lake. The restaurant chain is also working keenly to increase its network across the nation. The new initiative will help Domino’s to cut some costs and cement its position as the leading pizza chain service.
