To prevent the spread of the coronavirus outbreak, all the citizens are following the guidelines of social distancing and stay at home. Besides, many parents are asking if it is essential for infants and children to visit their pediatricians. Nationwide data is showing that amid the pandemic, many children are missing their key vaccines.
It is very important for children to continue seeing their pediatricians in-person to examine the injuries or illness keenly so as to continue the course received for ongoing illnesses.
Dr. Kimberly Giuliano noted that the nationwide data is showing that the demand for certain vaccines has dropped in past weeks after the outbreak has mandated the lockdown. Comparatively, about 42 to 73% drop in all types of vaccines compared to the earlier weeks before the coronavirus outbreak, depending on the sources.
Dr. Kimberly further added, children and infants are especially very young, and they vitally need to match up with their immunization schedule. Children didn’t have that much immunity as adults have, and other than coronavirus, many other fatal diseases in the environment might easily affect children. For example, Measles, pertussis is also known as whooping cough, etc.
Dr. Kimberly prompts parents that fortunately, very young children and infants are likely to shows no symptoms to get very sick from coronavirus infections. Even though we are in the middle of the pandemic, it is essential to get children vaccinated against other fatal diseases. The children will be left unprotected if the vaccines are delayed more.
For any reason, if parents are not sure about their child in concern of taking out for a meeting with their doctor in their clinic. The parents must first call the doctor, and they will suggest some options that can be safely managed at home or any other that your kid should be evaluated for, she added.
