According to the survey held in 2018 by the World Health Organization’s Global Health Estimates that road accident deaths count almost 36% of the people who were riding two-wheelers and 15% followed by pedestrians. Out of these road accidents, a few of the deaths have no explained reason. 

Besides, if we found the reason for how and why the road deaths and accidents happened, we might look into it and save lives. 

Holding on to this, though, the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) pass out Shamik Guha and Sayan Tapadar decided to creates Altor, an AI inbuild smart helmet along with their friend Anirban Datta Gupta, a Harvard Business School alumni and Muhammad Bilal Shakil.

Altor is made by combining the hardware and software to develop a complete solution that makes protective helmets look extremely attractive to initiate youngsters to wear helmets. This ideology not only initiates the business strategy but also increases the safety of the rider.

Altor’s smart helmets also provide a deep understanding of the vehicle to mobility companies for better fleet management. The startup also serves to B2B segment as its helmets are Internet of Things (IoT) that has advanced features of track the vehicle. It also provides the information if your vehicle gets stolen or to know where it is parked. Besides, it will also provide information about speed. 

Altor has Organizational Fleet Monitoring, which gives the organization the status of whether the employees are wearing the helmet or not. This also improves safety and acknowledgment. The helmets are built with Integrating Services, which are the set interactions that can be mapped into the helmets necessary for organizational functions.

Gesture Enabled Functionality is the attraction of Altor’s helmets as, when enabled, it can be accessed with a simple touch gesture. With Secure Remote Tracking, the organizations, as well as users, can track riders’ live location and OTP.

It also has a dedicated button into it that navigates the rider to nearby hospitals and also alert emergency contacts. Besides,  it also spots accidents and alerts emergency authorities and contacts. You can use navigation and even take an emergency call with this smart helmet.

Under the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) of the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) cohort programs for deep-tech startups named Avishkar Accelerator Program, Altor got selected as a notable deep-tech startup. Under this program, Altor got investment with 6 months mentorship and research-led program as well. 

Altor’s innovative idea has also attracted India’s leading and largest incubator and accelerator, Venture Catalysts. Recently, this VC firm has funded an undisclosed amount in this AI-powered smart helmets. In addition, this investment firm also gives mentoring and networking of business to Altor. 

On the funding, co-founder Muhammad Bilal said, they believe that Altor smart helmets could be a game-changer for the new era of two-wheeler driver services, which is even become the most funded sector at present conditions. Investors have invested more than $20 billion in the past 3 years.

Talking about Altor’s plan for the future, the founders are planning to enhance its product and stabilizing a clear market, strengthening its customer base and expanding in more cities. Presently, Altor is running pilots with 20 early adopters of their helmets and wishes to grow with more.
