Apple Inc. has started assembling its lower-priced iPhone SE models at its manufacturing partner Wistron’s plant in Bengaluru which makes India the only third country globally to assemble iPhones.
Apple made in India iPhone SE is expected to hit the mobile stores this month soon. The manufacturing company has completed the assembling of iPhones and iPads in Bengaluru that will reach its distribution partners Redington and Ingram shortly.These firm will start shipping iPhones to domestic customers later this month as reported by The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
Apple has been seeking to set up their iPhones local production in India but before finalizing the deal Apple CEO had a negotiation meeting on tax exemptions and other incentives in February this year. Many discussions were held before the actual production was agreed upon to take place locally. The State Industries Minister R V Deshpande assured that the Karnataka government would be giving complete support to Apple manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. He also stated that there was stiff competition among various states in India to get this project and the fact that Apple choose Karnataka has yet again affirmed Karnataka’s investment attractiveness and business-friendly environment,” Apple has planned to assemble 300,000 to 400,000 iPhone SE handsets in India initially.
