Pinterest announced that it has acquired a 4-year-old search engine, Jelly. Jelly was created by Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and it was created with an aim to re imagine a search engine as a social Q&A platform.
“I was familiar with Pinterest. As an angel investor, I put money into Pinterest years ago. When we talked about Jelly joining forces with Pinterest, things got really interesting. Their mission was astonishingly similar to ours. Human powered search, a subjective search engine, and discovering things you didn’t know you need to know. These are all key to Jelly!” said, Biz Stone.
This deal works well both for Pinterest and Jelly. For now when you search for something on jelly you would have had to wait a few minutes and get links through e-mail, But Pinterest believes that this acquisition will fasten the building of world’s first visual discovery engine.
